Bar in the bank
Having lived in Reading for a couple of decades, I’ve become a bit numb to the constant change, and for the life of me couldn’t think of somewhere interesting to conduct this recent interview about the global impact of farming. However, thanks to some very helpful people on a local Facebook group I ended up here at the Market House in Reading.
Situated in the old Lloyds Bank building it is a delightful, refreshing place. Inside they have stands for street food (with different vendors all the time), a bar in the old vault and a wonderful roof top garden.
Just to point out some of the features in these photos:
- The photo that shows you the vault roof and how it’s been cut out to give a window. It’s really interesting to see how think that is, and how in fact due to the access constraints this had to be drilled using robot, and the rubble was excavated by hand in Tesco bags-for-life! Now that’s ironic given the topic of the interview.
- Talking of irony, given this was a bank, take a look at the photo near the cash desk – that’s right, it’s a cashless bar, card only.
